Kaleidoscope: Ideas + Projects to Spark Your Creativity (North Light Books, February 2007) is basically a book-length zine, an enthusiastic compilation of creative ideas collected from the diverse art zine scene. I put out a call to my arty friends (both old and new!) and they met my challenge with a generous outpouring of creative goodness more vibrant and invigorating than I’ve ever seen gathered in one place. Honestly! I am not just saying that!  J  Every page is lush with mixed-media possibilities to dream about, and motivation to do the artwork you are meant to do. Peering through this livey Kaleidoscope, you’ll discover new ways to integrate art into your life – and breathe more life into your art!

Kaleidoscope features a diverse array of clear how-to projects, thoughtful essays and inspiring techniques to help you discover and strengthen your artistic voice. All of the contributors are noted participants in the art zine community, where they share their unique, often humorous, points of view in numerous independently published zines such as Brain Waves Zine, Chinese Sweatshop, Pisces Rising – A Zine For Artists, Artella – The Waltz of Words and Art, Invoke Arts, Dressmaker Zine, Tub Legs, ARTitude Zine and many more.

Kaleidoscope is densely packed with ideas and images to get your creative synapses firing. Whether you enjoy visual journaling, assemblage, collage, art card decks, bookbinding, fiber art, writing or altered art, you will glean fresh information that is useful as well as rousing. I have to tell you, I had a total blast putting this book together! Working with so many talented artists and writers was a real thrill for me. I learned a lot along the way about myself and my art, and I emerged from the process with a head full of tantalizing ideas and a heart full of creative passion.
